This year’s PRISM’s exhibition took place at the Art Pavillion, Mile End, and this year I was asked to record the exhibition and Private View. Each artist’s approach to the theme has been unique, with work ranging from traditional embroidery and textile work through to wrapped rusted tools, bones, broken porcelain and quipu.
‘We are delighted to be returning to the Art Pavilion in Mile End. It’s a beautiful space in which to showcase the diverse, high-quality textile-inspired work by our members around the theme of Untold. We are very lucky to have such a high standard of work to choose from within the group, along with a host of interesting interpretations of our theme.’
Topics touched upon include subjects as diverse as dementia, folklore and family. I particularly liked the work of Helen O’Leary (whose crocheted wire gloves each have a guilty thought or secret attached), Kim Winter‘s exploration of osteoporosis, Wolf and Wilding‘s ‘Discarded 16 Years’, Anne Amosford‘s ‘Memento Mori’ and Ross Belton‘s piece ‘Still Life’ which deals with the plight of refugees and migrants in today’s politically charged atmosphere. The work has been invited be shown at the Lloyd’s Register Safer World Conference 22 which runs 10-11 May in Old Billingsgate, London.
